Week 2 Progress

So during my weigh in this past week I was down another 2 lbs. I sure was hoping for more but I know that this is very reasonable. I have been sticking with my goal of working out 4 X a week and actually got up to four miles done on Thursday!
My goal this week:
  • Increase the intensity of my workouts, love the incline option on my treadmill!
  • Resist the urge to snack after dinner. It seems that is my weak spot. It is the time in the day when all the little kiddos are in bed, my husbands fast asleep and I am all alone decompressing from the day. I had made it a habit to have cereal or ice cream almost every night. Well that is not going to help me reach my goal! I have found that once I resist the urge to snack and busy myself with something else it does get easier.
  • To get to bed earlier, I do not sleep enough! Getting up at 5:30 am to workout is much easier when I am well rested!
One day at a time!
On a positive note my cloths are not as tight as a few weeks ago!

Down 5 lbs!

So this morning was weigh in time and I was so thankful to see the scale move in the right direction. This week I weighed in at 205, that is a 5 lb loss! I was able to get in 4 workouts last week. I averaged 2.5-3 miles each day. I did splurge on Sunday for Joe's Birthday Dinner and had a T-Bone Steak, but it was so worth it! Today we went out for dinner and I ordered a Chef Salad with the dressing on the side. It was so good I used less than a Tablespoon of dressing! Well each and everyday is going to have it's ups and downs, I am just going to keep trying to do my best!

My Progress so far!

So the journey has begun! Yesterday I got got up at 5:30  and walked 3 miles. I was actually was shocked that I did the three, no problem. That was until this morning when my shins and feet were so sore. I actually stayed in bed until 5:40 and figured that they could not hurt any worse and eventually  they would feel better. Today I walked 2 1/4 miles. Day by day it will be my personal choice on whether or not I am willing to recommit to my personal health. I do actually enjoy how I feel when I workout, somehow it is just getting to it!

Grilled Chicken, Turkey Bacon, Romaine Lettuce, Tomato, Red Pepper, Celery, Cucumber, Red Onion, Parmesan Cheese, and a package of Kraft 100 calorie cheese bites. I even measured the dressing and put 1 TBS on top. The Deli Flats have less than 1/4 tsp of light butter and garlic on them.
As far as the diet goes I have been able to stick with eating smaller portions and of course better food. Here is what I had today:
55 calories: 1 cup of Cantaloupe
285 calories: 1 Deli Flat Toasted with an Egg and 3 slices of Turkey Bacon
165 calories: 3 Cups of Plain Popcorn
350 calories: 1/2 piece of Fish, rice and zucchini leftover from last night
450 calories:  Salad with Grilled Chicken and a grilled Deli Flat
270 calories: 1/2 Cup of Granola with 1/4 Cup Skim Milk
1,575 calories consumed today

NO Excuses!

So last night I had the hardest time sleeping, then around 12:30 Junior woke up screaming! I think he must of had a bad dream because after just 15 minutes of rocking him he went back to sleep. When the alarm went off @ 5:30 I thought for a brief second "Ah why is this alarm going off".
I cleared the fog and got ready to sweat! After just 1/2 a mile Sophia came waltzing in, I told here to just shut the door and watch Mommy! I felt so guilty just "ignoring" her. But I kept treading and got 3 miles done this morning!

Today I am heading out with the kids to Run a few errands and one of our stops is Costco. We normally will all split a slice of pizza, the kids love this. Pizza is not part of the Healthy living plan so I think we are going to skip that today! We are also going to stop by Target and Kmart so I will be sure to post any new deals that I found later today!

Oh, one more thing. I tried that Celsius Green Tea that is a money maker at Walgreens and let's just say it was one of the worst things I have ever tried to drink. It has actual tea leaves in the drink. Have you tried this stuff? If so what did you think?

My Weight Loss Journey

Ok I am just going to do this! Today I weigh 210 lbs! It is not the most I have ever weighed, however I am on a slippery slope. My entire life I have worked to maintain a "healthy weight". In High School I was always on the "chubby" side until my junior year. Then in college I slowly started putting on the LB's. When Joe and I got married and we both put on a few pounds. My weight would always fluctuate up and down by ten pounds or so.

The big hit to my weight happened in 2004. My first daughter Emma was born that year. Of course I packed on the pounds being pregnant, but that was just the beginning. Emma was born with a heart defect and after 5 1/2 months and many surgeries she passed away. Food became the ultimate comfort for me. If I was sad I ate, if I was mad I ate, and on, and on, and on. Slowly my weight crept up to my all time high of 238 lbs. Then in late 2005 I became pregnant once again. Several months into my pregnancy I discovered that I was gestational diabetic. I followed all the rules given to my by my physician and dietician and only strayed once on my diet (the baby shower my Doc let me eat one slice of cake) through my pregnancy I actually lost weight! When Sophia was born I weighed 220 lbs! I tried to keep up with the diabetic diet and got back down to 214 lbs before I was pregnant with my son in 2008. Once again I stuck to the diet and my weight dropped. Shortly after Junior was born I weighed in at 178lbs. I was so excited and felt so good. So what did I do to celebrate, I ate.

Life with two children became so stressful. Sophia was such a good baby, she was easy to sooth, slept through the night very quickly, and I felt that I knew exactly how to take care of her. All that had changed after Junior was born. The poor little guy had terrible acid reflux and required so much attention. Taking care of Junior required a new set of skills and a lot of trial and error. Let's just say that food became my coping mechanism. Slowly the weight started creeping up again and that is where I am today. Junior just celebrated his second Birthday and I just hit the 210 mark!!!!

So why am I sharing this with anyone who wants to read my blog? Well I am done making excuses. Last year my husband had bought me a treadmill and I stuck to it for 4 months, I was able to do up to five miles a day and was feeling really great, then we went on vacation and I found my excuse. I have gone on the bandwagon on and off again and now I am ready to commit! I am tired of being tired. I am tired of my back hurting. I am tired of my clothes being tight. I am tired of food!!!!!! I want to be in control! I want to be as healthy as possible so that I am capable of taking care of my family and myself for the long run!

One difference this time for me is that my husband is on board as well. He recently has gained an extra 15 pounds and he is ready to lose the weight. What really excites me about this is in the past he has always shunned "healthy food", but tonight we actually had a conversation about what vegetables he would like to have.

Another major motivation for me as well is that my Husband and Daughter both have Heart Conditions (the same my first daughter had). They are both in good health but it is very important that they live a healthy life style to minimize the chance of any complication. So it is my mission to set an example and start living the life that I want for me and my family! My hope is to do update several days a week. I even will be posting any new recipes or techniques that I use that are a success. You will find any new updates on the right of my blog under the listing "Sonia on Healthy Living" Join me on my journey and feel free to share your story or favorite recipes!
